Amazing classes and my hot new scooter!

Today in Ethical Issues we discussed Psychological Egoism. Psychological egoism is the belief that human nature is incapable of committing selfless acts. I believe that everything we do as humans can be traced back to the self. Even doing good things for others can be seen by Psychological egoists as self serving. Some of my classmates felt that caring for others self interest meant that they were committing a selfless act. I am not sure what I think about this. The devils advocate is that we care about others because others affect our world. Ethical egoism is the belief that humans should all act for their self interest. They believe that if all people act selfishly than everyone will be taken care of. This was an easier theory to talk about. I think that it is an extremely limited view because the theory assumes that all humans have the same self interest and that all humans are capable of caring for themselves. It does not take social inequality into the equation.
Personally I was very triggered by the term selfless. I grew up thinking that I was supposed to be selfless. Being capable of committing selfless acts did not seem to be a positive thing since I have personally worked so hard to change that aspect of myself. I realize that this was not the intention of the class discussion and just found my reaction interesting.

I got my first vehicle! It is an adorable electric scooter and I am allready quite happy and inlove. I will take a picture of me and Roxy(scooter) soon and post it.
That is it for now,
Hanna

My first blog

This is my very first blog. Let’s see... life is both busy and extremely exciting!
School is great. I just got back from a month long class where I studied women's topics in wilderness leadership. The group was truly amazing. We spent most of our time in the Sierra Nevada’s where we climbed Lyle which is the highest peak in all of Yosemite. It was beautiful!

For the quarter classes I am taking, Adolescent Psychology, the Color line in U.S history, and Ethical Issues for Experiential Educators. They are all starting out really well. All my teachers seem to really love the subjects they are teaching. I am a little nervous about the amount of writing these classes require. I may have to give up a social life in order to get all my work done.
I am also really excited about an internship possibility for this summer. It is a program that does a combination of family systems and equine assisted therapy. The program is in Las Vegas, New Mexico. It would be the perfect capstone of my years here at PC.
